36 kV 630A Apparatus Bushing

The 36 kV 630A apparatus bushing is the fixed, apparatus-side half of a Type C separable interface. It is designed for European-type cable branch cabinets and power surrounding supply cabinets, and is used where a European-type cable branch cabinet connects onward to a high-voltage and wind power substation. A deadbreak cable connector plugs directly onto it. The bushing body is moulded from epoxy resin with good mechanical and electrical properties, and it presents the Type C 630A interface defined by CENELEC EN 50180 and EN 50181.

Why 36 kV changes the bushing

A Type C 630A interface looks the same at 12 kV and at 36 kV from the outside, but the dielectric duty behind it is in a different class. At 36 kV the bushing must hold a 40.5 kV phase-to-phase / 26 kV phase-to-ground system rating, stand a 200 kV impulse withstand and a 106 kV DC withstand, and keep supporting 630 A through the same compact interface. That is why the 36 kV member of the DBI family is a distinct part, not a stretched 24 kV one - the wall thickness, epoxy compound and screen geometry are all sized for the higher field.

The interface it presents

Interface: Type C, 630 A, as described by CENELEC EN 50180 and EN 50181 - the standard separable interface, so compliant deadbreak connectors mate with it.

Role: the apparatus-side seat. The cabinet carries the fixed bushing; the cable's connector is plugged onto it, giving a dead-front, fully screened joint that can be made and broken without exposing live parts.

Screen: the moulded screen provides a point to land a drain wire (to ground the connector shield) or to connect a potential indicator / fault indicator.

Construction

Insulator - an epoxy compound that combines good electrical, thermal and mechanical properties and is environmentally stable.

Interface - Type C 630A, per EN 50180 / EN 50181.

Screen - a convenient point for drain-wire grounding, or for a potential or fault indicator.

The bushing is a fixed part: it bolts into the cabinet and stays in place while the connector is repeatedly plugged and unplugged. It therefore has to be mechanically robust as well as dielectrically strong - see the cantilever requirement below.

Mechanical duty

Because the bushing holds a plugged-in connector, it is rated for a side load:

Minimum cantilever withstand load: 500 N.

This is the qualification that matters for a fixed interface: the part must survive the mechanical load imposed by the connector and its cable without the interface deforming or losing its dielectric margin.

Dimension and connection

Threaded connections: M16 × 2 at both ends (apparatus stud and connector end).

Overall length: 332 mm; upper threaded section depth: 91 mm.

Where the 36 kV apparatus bushing is used

Wind power substations (the 36 kV driver)

Wind farms collect at 33/36 kV, and the collector feeds a wind power substation through European-type cabinets. The 36 kV apparatus bushing is the fixed interface that a deadbreak cable connector mates with at that boundary - giving the collector station a standard, screened, pluggable connection point at the highest voltage its cabinets see.

European-type cable branch cabinets

The core housing: providing the Type C 630A apparatus interface inside European-type cable branch cabinets, where MV cable is branched and switched and the cable's deadbreak connector is plugged onto the fixed bushing.

Power surrounding supply cabinets

Used in the power surrounding supply cabinets that surround and feed a distribution network, wherever a standardised, screened, pluggable apparatus interface at 36 kV is required.

Connection to deadbreak cable connectors

The bushing is specified to connect with deadbreak cable connectors - the separable connectors used to terminate MV cable - completing a dead-front, fully screened interface at 36 kV.

FAQ

Q. What is a 36 kV apparatus bushing? It is the fixed, epoxy bushing fitted to apparatus - such as a European-type cable branch cabinet or a wind power substation cabinet - that presents the Type C 630A separable interface a deadbreak cable connector plugs onto.

Q. Where is the 36 kV version used (36kV 630A apparatus bushing for wind power substation)? In 36 kV (33 kV) networks - most typically European-type cable branch cabinets connecting onward to a high-voltage or wind power substation, and power surrounding supply cabinets.

Q. How is it different from the 12/24 kV bushing insert? Same Type C 630A interface, higher dielectric duty: 40.5 kV phase-to-phase, 26 kV phase-to-ground, 200 kV impulse and 106 kV DC withstand. For 12 kV / 24 kV cabinets, use the lower-voltage bushing insert.

Q. Does it connect with deadbreak connectors (36kV 630A bushing for deadbreak cable connector)? Yes - it is designed to connect with deadbreak cable connectors.

Q. What material and interface does it use? An epoxy resin insulator (electrically, thermally and mechanically stable), presenting the Type C 630A interface per EN 50180 / EN 50181.

Q. What is the screen for? It provides a point to connect a drain wire (shield grounding) or a potential / fault indicator.

Q. What standard is it tested to (36kV apparatus bushing IEC 60137)? Production tests follow IEC 60502-4 and IEC 60137.

Q. How much mechanical load can it take? A minimum cantilever withstand load of 500 N.

Q. What is in the kit? The apparatus bushing and a bushing gasket, plus an installation instruction sheet.
