Description
36kV 630A T Cable Connector
A 36 kV network asks more of a separable connector than any other medium-voltage tier: higher impulse duty, higher partial-discharge margin, and - increasingly - an environment where water is a real threat. This connector is built for both. The 630A 36kV T Cable Connector is fully screened and fully submersible when mated with the correct bushing or plug, and it is rated to a 200 kV impulse withstand and a 45 kV partial-discharge extinction voltage. It connects polymeric cable to transformers, switchgear, motors and other equipment fitted with a premolded separable connector, and it is molded in EPDM.

Two properties matter most at this tier, and this connector has both.
Fully submersible - mated with the proper bushing or plug, the connector forms a watertight, screened joint that can be immersed. That matters wherever water cannot be kept out: flooded cable vaults and manholes, below-grade substations, tunnels, coastal and marine installations, and offshore platforms. A connector that is merely "sealed" is a different, weaker claim than one rated submersible - specify it explicitly where flooding is credible.
Fully screened - the semiconducting shield re-establishes ground-shield continuity across the joint, so the connector exterior stays at earth potential and there are no exposed live parts. The result is a touch-safe, submersible, fully insulated connection.
The Highest Voltage Tier in the Family
At 36 kV the dielectric numbers climb to their family maximum, and two parameters appear that the lower-voltage tiers do not publish at all:
Continuous operating voltage 36 kV, with a maximum rating of 40.5 kV phase-to-phase and 26 kV phase-to-ground.
Impulse withstand 200 kV - the surge level a 36 kV network must survive.
AC withstand 117 kV (5 min, 60 Hz).
DC withstand 106 kV for 15 minutes - a separate dielectric duty for higher-voltage distribution.
Partial-discharge minimum extinction voltage 45 kV - the widest PD margin in the family.
Minimum corona voltage level 26 kV - confirming the connector stays corona-free across its operating range.
Built for 33 kV and 36 kV Networks
This is the tier for 33 kV (UK convention), 35 kV (China) and 36 kV (IEC / Europe) distribution. Those networks include utility substations, large industrial plants and - increasingly - renewable collector and offshore systems, where cable runs are long and the environment unforgiving. Because it uses the CENELEC Type C, 630 A interface, it mates with standard 36 kV dead-front apparatus bushings, and the submersible rating suits the below-grade and marine locations these networks frequently use.

Cable Compatibility: 26.8–49 mm, A–J Window
The 36 kV tier carries the largest insulation envelope in the family, because cable insulation walls are thickest here. Insulation diameter range: 26.8 mm to 49 mm (1.055–1.929 in), covered by range codes A through J. Measure the cable's insulation diameter and choose the range code before ordering.
| Cable range code | Inches | Millimetres |

The Complete Kit
Supplied in a heavy-duty polyethylene bag, each 36 kV T cable connector kit contains: the T cable connector; a bi-metal compression lug (copper lug optional); stud with hex nut, washer and spring washer; an insulating plug with conductive rubber cap; a molded cable adapter; silicone lubricant; an installation instruction sheet; and a clean paper wipe.
Lug rule: bi-metal suits copper and aluminium conductors; copper is for copper only.
Applications
1. Submersible and below-grade installations
The headline application: cable vaults and manholes that flood, below-grade and basement substations, cable tunnels and sumps. Where water ingress is credible, a submersible separable connector - not a merely sealed one - is the correct specification.
2. Offshore wind and marine systems
Offshore platforms, wind-turbine and offshore-substation connections, and marine installations combine 33/36 kV distribution with constant moisture and salt exposure. The submersible, screened design and 200 kV impulse rating suit this environment.
3. Transformers, switchgear and motors
The connector terminates polymeric cable into any apparatus fitted with a premolded separable connector. Motors are worth calling out specifically at 36 kV - large high-voltage motors are a common application this tier serves, alongside transformers and switchgear.
4. 33 kV and 36 kV utility and industrial distribution
Utility substations and large industrial plants distributing at 33/36 kV use the connector to make maintainable, re-enterable cable terminations that stay insulated and screened.
5. Network extensions and upgrades
Because it is separable, the joint can be broken and re-made without re-terminating the cable - useful when a 33/36 kV network is extended or reconfigured.

FAQ
Q1. What is a 36 kV T cable connector? A 36 kV T cable connector is a fully screened, separable tee connector that terminates polymeric cable into dead-front apparatus on 33/36 kV networks. It is the highest voltage tier of our separable-connector range.
Q2. What does "fully submersible" mean? Mated with the correct bushing or plug, the connector forms a watertight, screened joint that can be immersed. It is a stronger claim than "sealed" and is specified wherever flooding or immersion is credible.
Q3. Is the T cable connector the same as a T-body connector? They are the same product family - a molded, separable tee connector for medium-voltage cable. This 36 kV tier is titled "T cable connector"; the 12 kV and 24 kV tiers are titled "T-body connector". They differ by voltage class and cable window.
Q4. Which networks is it for (33kV separable connector)? 33 kV (UK), 35 kV (China) and 36 kV (IEC/Europe) distribution, plus the 40.5 kV maximum phase-to-phase rating.
Q5. What standard is it tested to? Production tests follow IEC 60502-4.
Q6. What are the key dielectric ratings? 200 kV impulse, 117 kV AC withstand (5 min), 106 kV DC withstand (15 min), 45 kV partial-discharge extinction voltage and a 26 kV minimum corona voltage level.
Q7. What cable and conductor sizes does it cover? Insulation diameters 26.8–49 mm (1.055–1.929 in), conductor sizes 25–500 mm².
Q8. Can it be used with aluminium conductors? Yes, with the standard bi-metal compression lug; the copper lug is for copper conductors only.
