Heat Shrink Termination for Cables

A heat shrink cable termination is a complete, factory-matched kit that rebuilds the electrical insulation, stress control and sealing of a cable end - the finished terminal that a joiner installs, not a loose tube. Our heat shrink terminations cover the full range from LV distribution cables up to 1.2 kV to MV cables up to 42 kV, for indoor and outdoor service, on paper or polymeric insulated cables.

Each kit is supplied as a matched system: insulation and anti-tracking tubes, stress control material, adhesive-coated sealing and breakout parts, rain sheds where required, and the earth-connection hardware for screen or armour. Because every part is selected to the cable's voltage, core count and cross-section, the installer gets one kit number instead of a parts list - the crutch, the screen cut and the lug connection each have a dedicated, adhesive-sealed component.

Key points

One kit, whole termination - 1-, 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-core cables, with or without armour; also 3+1, 4+1 and 3+2.

LV up to 0.6/1(1.2) kV, MV up to 42 kV, indoor and outdoor, paper or polymeric insulation.

Electrical stress control at the screen cut - stress relief mastic plus stress control tube smooth the field at the cable end.

Anti-tracking and creepage - anti-tracking insulation tubes and rain sheds resist tracking and erosion, and lengthen surface creepage in polluted or wet conditions.

Adhesive moisture sealing - hot-melt adhesive inside the sealing and insulation tubes; the crutch is closed with an adhesive-coated breakout.

Earth connection either way - soldered or solderless connection of metal screen or armour to ground; wire-screen cables use copper wires embedded in sealing mastic.

Weather resistant - all materials resistant to UV and weathering.

How the termination works (MV, up to 42 kV)

Universal indoor/outdoor design for paper or polymeric insulated cables. Five functional zones, in the order an installer works down the cable:

Electrical stress control - stress relief mastic is laid around the end of the screen cut; the stress control tube, together with the mastic, smooths the electrical field at the cable end.

Anti-tracking - anti-tracking insulation tubes and rain sheds give excellent tracking and erosion resistance, protecting the termination even in severe service conditions.

Additional creepage - anti-tracking rain sheds lengthen the surface creepage distance.

Moisture sealing - durable sealing is achieved by hot-melt adhesive inside the sealing tube and anti-tracking insulation tube. On 3-core cables the crutch area is sealed and protected with an adhesive-coated breakout installed over the cores and the end of the oversheath.

Earth connection - soldered or solderless connection of metal screen or armour to ground. For cables with wire screen, copper wires are embedded in the sealing mastic to prevent corrosion and moisture ingress.

 4 core cable termination kit

LV construction (up to 1.2 kV)

Designed for 1-, 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-core cables, with or without armour; also 3+1, 4+1 and 3+2.

The cable crutch is sealed by a breakout with an adhesive-coated inner surface.

Heat shrink insulation tubes seal between the cable lug and the bottom of the core insulation.

Single-core cables need only an insulation tube.

All materials resistant to UV and weathering.

LV Heat Shrink Termination - RST, 0.6/1(1.2) kV

Voltage Cores Cross section (mm²) Kit No.
0.6/1(1.2) kV 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 4–6 0.6/1kVRST-4(5,3,2)/(-1)
    10–16 0.6/1kVRST-4(5,3,2)/0
    25–50 0.6/1kVRST-4(5,3,2)/1
    70–120 0.6/1kVRST-4(5,3,2)/2
    150–240 0.6/1kVRST-4(5,3,2)/3
    300–400 0.6/1kVRST-4(5,3,2)/4
    500 0.6/1kVRST-4(3,2,1)/5

Kit number logic: RST = termination; the bracket lists the core counts served by that size; the suffix digit is the cross-section step.

FAQ

What is a heat shrink cable termination?

A kit of heat-shrinkable tubes, stress control and sealing parts that rebuilds the insulation, field control and sealing at the end of a cable, giving a finished termination.

What voltage range is covered?

LV terminations from 0.6/1(1.2) kV up to MV terminations at 42 kV, for indoor and outdoor service.

Can it be used on armoured cable?

Yes. Terminations suit cables with or without armour; a solderless earth connection system for armoured cables is available on request.

Are lugs included?

No - lugs and other accessories are ordered separately.

How many cores are supported?

1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 cores, plus 3+1, 4+1 and 3+2 constructions. Single-core cables require only an insulation tube.

Heat shrink or cold shrink?

Heat shrink is torch/heat applied and suits a wide cross-section range from a small kit inventory; cold shrink is pull-core applied and needs no flame. See the cold shrink termination page for that route.
