Product Description
Heat Shrink Oil-resistant Tube
This heat shrink oil resistant tube is manufactured from cross-linked polyolefin and is designed for one job that ordinary heat shrink tubing cannot do: survive continuous contact with cable oil. It is mainly used in PILC cable terminations and joints - paper-insulated, lead-covered cables - where the impregnating oil would otherwise swell, soften or degrade a standard polyolefin sleeve. The tube provides oil resistance, insulation and sealing protection in the same part.
For anyone specifying a heat shrink tube for PILC cable terminations and joints, the difference is measurable: after 168 hours immersed in 80 °C cable oil, tensile strength and elongation at break vary by no more than ±20%. The same ±20% limit is held after 168 hours of heat ageing at 130 °C, so the tube keeps its mechanical integrity in both the oil and the heat a live PILC joint sees.
Electrically it is a genuine insulation sleeve, not just a barrier: volume resistivity ≥1×10¹⁴ Ω·cm, dielectric strength ≥20 kV/mm and a dielectric constant ≤4. It shrinks to a tight, sealed wall over the joint (Shore A hardness ≥80) and passes a 160 °C, 4-hour heat-shock test with no cracking.
Applications
PILC cable terminations - oil barrier and insulation over the wiped/terminated end.
PILC cable joints - over the joint body where oil migrates along the cores.
Paper-insulated, lead-covered distribution cables at distribution voltages.
Oil-exposed cable ends in switchgear, transformers and joints where cable oil is present.
Any cable end where the environment brings cable oil or transformer oil into contact with the sleeve.
Why oil resistance matters: PILC cable insulation is oil-impregnated paper, and that oil will migrate into and through ordinary polyolefin heat shrink, causing swelling, loss of wall strength and eventual failure of the seal. An oil-resistant cross-linked polyolefin tube holds its dimensions and mechanical properties in oil, so the joint stays sealed and insulated for its service life.

Key points
Cross-linked polyolefin, purpose-built for oil contact - not a general-purpose tube.
Made for PILC / paper-insulated cables - terminations and joints, the classic oil-exposure application.
Oil resistance verified at 80 °C cable oil, 168 h - strength and elongation change ≤±20%.
Heat ageing 130 °C × 168 h - same ≤±20% limits, for hot joints.
Insulation + sealing in one - ≥20 kV/mm dielectric strength, ≥10¹⁴ Ω·cm volume resistivity, ≤4 dielectric constant.
10 sizes, 20–120 mm supplied ID, recovering to 8–45 mm - covering a wide range of PILC joint diameters.
Standard length 300–1000 mm, cut to project length.
No cracking at 160 °C, 4 h heat shock; hardness ≥80 Shore A.
