Motor Slot Wedges in Blue F-Class DMD

The part nobody notices until it fails

Slot wedges are the last thing that goes into a motor slot. They close the slot, hold the winding down, and keep the coil from lifting under load. Once the motor is assembled, the wedge disappears from view - and that is precisely why it has to be right the first time.

The problem is rarely the material. Blue F-class DMD is a proven choice for this application. The problem is the fit.

When a wedge is slightly too thin, or the width is a hair narrow, it slides in easily - and then keeps moving. Under vibration it creeps, rattles, and can work its way out of the slot altogether. When it is slightly too thick or too wide, it will not seat cleanly, and forcing it in can damage the slot liner and the insulation it is meant to protect.

Either way, the customer is left with a loose part in a finished motor, and a rework problem that costs far more than the wedge itself.

What customers tell us

The same three points come up again and again when motor manufacturers and repair shops ask us for slot wedges:

"It has to sit tight in the slot." A press fit, not a loose drop-in. If it moves after assembly, it is not usable.

"The slot is not a standard size." Slot geometry varies by motor design - width, depth and corner detail all change from one model to the next.

"We don't need a truckload." Trial runs, repair jobs and short production series are common, and nobody wants to buy a full production volume to test a fit.

What we supply

We make slot wedges in blue F-class DMD - a polyester film bonded between two layers of polyester mat, a class F (155 °C) composite insulation - cut to the application rather than sold as a generic strip.

Item Detail
Material Blue F-class DMD (polyester film / polyester mat laminate, class F, 155 °C)
Thickness 0.25 mm
Width 9 mm and 11 mm as working widths; other widths made to order
Form Coil (continuous roll) or cut pieces / slices cut to length
Geometry Manufactured to customer drawing

The material gives the slot the dielectric strength and mechanical support it needs. The cutting is what makes it fit.

Why we ask for your drawing

Because the wedge is a fit-critical part, we do not quote a final dimension from a rough description. A drawing lets us confirm:

the exact width and thickness tolerance the slot requires;

the length and whether you want coils or pre-cut pieces;

any edge or corner profile the slot calls for;

how the part is inserted in your process, so the fit is a press fit rather than an interference problem.

Send the drawing, and the wedge is made to that slot - not to a nearest-size guess that the assembler has to work around.

Coils or cut pieces, small batches included

We can supply the same part in two ways:

Coil / roll stock - for lines that cut and insert in-house, in continuous form.

Cut pieces (slices) - pre-cut to your length, ready to insert, for repair shops and short runs.

Small-batch orders are welcome. A trial quantity is the fastest way to confirm that the fit is right before you commit to volume - and it is the step that prevents a loose wedge from reaching a finished motor.
