1/What is Non-woven Tape?

Non-woven tape is a flexible insulating material made of glass fiber and glue.
How it differs from other fiberglass tapes:
Unlike other fiberglass tapes, it has no warp or weft pattern. If you tear it open, you'll find it has a grid-like pattern. In the electrical industry, non-woven tape is widely used for wire windings, cable bundling, transformer insulation, and motor slot linings. It's valued for its soft texture, high compliance, and stable insulation properties.
Why do customers choose Non-woven Tape?
Based on feedback from real users in the transformer and motor manufacturing industry, here are the main reasons they prefer non-woven tape:
Excellent Conformability
Non-woven tape is soft and flexible, so it can wrap tightly around irregular shapes without leaving gaps.
For example, one transformer manufacturer told us they used to face gaps when using rigid insulation materials, but after switching to non-woven tape, the coverage became more complete, reducing the risk of partial discharge.
Good Insulation Performance
It provides stable dielectric strength and maintains insulation even under heat and moisture.
This is why many motor factories use it in slot liners and phase insulation.
High Temperature Resistance
Depending on the material type, it can withstand continuous working temperatures from 130°C (Class B) up to 180°C (Class H).
One of our European clients chose Class H non-woven tape for their wind turbine generator coils to handle high operating temperatures.
Lightweight & Cost-Effective
Compared to some other insulation materials, non-woven tape offers a good balance between performance and price, which is important for large-scale production.
Easy Processing
It can be cut, punched, or slit into rolls without fraying, which saves time in assembly lines.
Benefits to Customers After Choosing Non-woven Tape
Longer Equipment Life
Stable insulation reduces overheating and electrical faults, meaning fewer repairs and longer operational life.
Reduced Maintenance Costs
Reliable insulation means fewer breakdowns, saving both labor and material replacement costs.
Improved Production Efficiency
Easy handling and quick wrapping mean less production downtime.
Flexibility in Application
One roll can be used for multiple purposes - from transformer coil wrapping to motor slot lining - reducing inventory complexity.
4. Real Case Example
A motor manufacturer in Southeast Asia replaced their old woven tape with our Class F non-woven tape. They reported:
12% faster winding process
Better coverage in tight corners of stator slots
Reduced scrap rate caused by insulation cracking during assembly
